Volunteers

Of crucial importance to our service is a group of volunteers, themselves solicitors and barristers who, because of their personal experience in dealing with  their own problems or those of someone close to them, feel that they can offer a fellow lawyer additional support on a more personal level.

LawCare has developed a network of such volunteers but more are always needed. If you have recovered from an addiction, or have suffered from considerable stress or clinical depression but are now well again (with at least two years sober/symptom free), then we would be pleased to hear from you.

The names of volunteers are kept confidential and identities fully protected. You will always be consulted before any suffering lawyer is referred to you, and always have the option of refusing to take a case without giving a reason.

Most volunteers are called on to assist a suffering solicitor between 1 and 3 times per year, and in most cases the help given is regular telephone contact, although some volunteers like to meet people referred to them; where the problem is addiction the volunteer may accompany the impaired lawyer to an AA/NA meeting. Our volunteers receive a regular newsletter in addition to LawCare News, and are asked to attend occasional training sessions.

Support for volunteers themselves is always available from the staff of LawCare. Professional counselling/support is also available in appropriate cases.

If you would like more information about becoming a volunteer, then please write to us using the details given on the Contact Us page. Alternatively you can download the Volunteer Information and Application Pack here in PDF format or here in Microsoft Word Format.
